Publishing Bangladesh Government Information via the Web

URL: http://www.egov4dev.org/banglaweb.htm

Description: As a part of introducing e-governance, the Ministry of
Communication in Bangladesh launched four websites of its major
departments to enable citizen access to government information. The
websites provide information in English about the organisation,
personnel and activities of the agencies. The Roads and Highways
Department (RHD) website is the most advanced in terms of
transparency, and has started to move beyond the simple publication
of basic information. It provides details of employment vacancies –
information not easily available in one place for other government
departments. It also contains details of planned road projects for
the year ahead sufficient to enable vendors and contractors to
identify major opportunities. It goes beyond just the basics of
publication by opening up some of the internal departmental processes
to public scrutiny. Project information is updated on a monthly basis
to detail progress on all 182 infrastructural projects.
