Internet community sponsorship

APNIC provides financial and in-kind sponsorship to strengthen Internet communities across the Asia Pacific. This support benefits APNIC Members and the community by developing local expertise, enabling more effective participation in technical and policy discussions, strengthening operational relationships, and supporting the exchange of knowledge and experience across the region.

APNIC works with the APNIC Foundation to coordinate regional support and improve access to sponsorship opportunities, ensuring they are aligned with the needs of community groups.

We support Network Operators Groups (NOGs), security communities, Internet governance forums, and other community groups that build skills, increase participation, and strengthen regional collaboration.

Examples include:

  • Technical community events, including NOG, peering, National Research and Education Networks (NREN), and security events.
  • Training and capacity-building activities.
  • Internet governance and policy initiatives.
  • Inclusion, diversity, next-generation, and leadership programs.

APNIC offers financial sponsorship, in-kind (non-financial) support, or a combination of both.

Financial sponsorship

  • Funding for community events or initiatives.

In-kind support

Non-financial contributions such as:

  • Technical and security training.
  • Conference speakers, presenters, and panellists.
  • Venue support for local community meetings at APNIC conferences.
  • Access to tools and platforms, such as paper submission systems and the Fellowship application system.

APNIC welcomes requests from Asia Pacific community groups whose initiatives support technical expertise, infrastructure, or Internet community development, and align with APNIC’s strategic goals.

How sponsorship requests are assessed

We assess requests based on:

  • Alignment with APNIC’s strategic priorities.
  • Expected community impact and participation.
  • Value to Members and how results will be shared with the community.
  • Your ability to run the activity successfully.

What to expect

  • We review each request against APNIC priorities, community value, and available budget.
  • Funding levels vary, and not all requests can be supported.
  • Support may be financial, in-kind, or both.
