MCMC Consultation Paper – proposed amendments to the CMA

The Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has published a Public Consultation Paper on proposed amendments to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588] (CMA).

The Paper can be found on MCMC’s website.

Among other matters, the proposed amendments:

  • confer statutory authority on MCMC for the management and administration of electronic addressing resources, including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and Autonomous System (AS) numbers;
  • support the development of a Malaysian national Internet registry (NIR) model for the administration of Internet number resources; and
  • establish a legal basis for the imposition and administration of fees by MCMC in connection with electronic addressing resources.

The MCMC is seeking feedback from the public on the proposed amendments to the CMA.

The closing date for feedback is 10 July 2026 (17:00 UTC+8).
