MCMC Consultation Paper – proposed amendments to the CMA
The Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) published a Public Consultation Paper on proposed amendments to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588] (CMA) in June 2026.
Among other matters, the paper proposed the folowing amendments:
- Confer statutory authority on MCMC for the management and administration of electronic addressing resources, including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and Autonomous System (AS) numbers
- Support the development of a Malaysian national Internet registry (NIR) model for the administration of Internet number resources
- Establish a legal basis for the imposition and administration of fees by MCMC in connection with electronic addressing resources.
Public feedback on the proposed amendments to the CMA has now closed. APNIC made a submission to MCMC as part of the consultation.
