Stand-alone APNIC conference host EoI
APNIC’s stand-alone conferences rotate between East Asia, South Asia and Oceania. Organizations in the subregion scheduled for a particular year can submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) to host the conference.
Hosting an APNIC conference allows you to showcase local Internet development and connect your community with Internet professionals from across the Asia Pacific. It also creates opportunities to share knowledge, contribute to policy discussions and build professional networks.
Local hosts also help APNIC build stronger relationships with local Internet communities and support the continued development of the Internet across the region.
Host location selection process
The APNIC Executive Council (EC) is responsible for selecting host locations. This selection is informed by key considerations such as accessibility, availability of suitable conference and accommodation facilities, safety, and cost.
To ensure a transparent, consistent, and evidence-based selection process, from September 2026, APNIC will use a structured Expression of Interest (EoI) process to identify and assess potential hosts and locations.
For example, for the 2029 stand-alone conference to be held in South Asia, the EoI will be open from May to September 2027.
| Year | Stand-alone meeting | EoI |
|---|---|---|
| 2027 | East Asia | N/A |
| 2028 | Oceania | Host to be selected |
| 2029 | South Asia | EoI open May-Sep 2027 |
| 2030 | East Asia | EoI open May-Sep 2028 |
| 2031 | Oceania | EoI open May-Sep 2029 |
| 2032 | South Asia | EoI open May-Sep 2030 |
Expression of Interest
Organizations interested in hosting an APNIC stand-alone conference are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) during the designated application period. All proposals are researched and assessed by the APNIC Secretariat against a defined set of criteria, including:
- Location & accessibility
- Safety / travel advisories
- Ease of travel / flight routes
- Visa requirements
- Location safety
- Venue suitability, availability, and quality
- Venue specs
- Capacity
- Layout
- Accessibility
- Internet capability
- Technical capability
- Network infrastructure
- Connectivity
- Technical partners
- Number of APNIC Members in host economy
- Whether the location has hosted an APNIC conference before
- Budget and sponsorship
During the research period, the Secretariat may hold informal discussions with potential hosts in each location to gather additional information as required.
The Secretariat evaluates all eligible submissions and provides a recommendation to the APNIC EC.
Following EC approval, APNIC enters into a host agreement with the selected organization before publicly announcing the conference location.
| Key dates | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 30 months prior to event | EoI opens to prospective host. |
| 24 months prior to event | EoI closes. Secretariat researches and evaluates all eligible submissions. |
| 22 months prior to event | Secretariat provides a recommendation to the APNIC Executive Council. Executive Council selects preferred and backup host locations. |
| 20 months prior to event (minimum) | Host agreement executed between APNIC and the selected host. |
| 18 months prior to event | Host location is officially announced. |
Timelines are indicative and may be adjusted where exceptional circumstances arise.
Get involved and host a conference
If you are considering partnering with APNIC to host a conference, please see this comprehensive guide to understand APNIC conference requirements.
The main responsibilities of the host are the provision of local support and commitment so that APNIC can manage the conference properly. The local partner must commit certain resources to the event but is not expected to take the lead role in financial or event management for the conference.
The APNIC Secretariat will work closely with the hosts to ensure the conference arrangements run smoothly.
