IPv6

This course provides an understanding of IPv6, its structure, operation, and technical features. IPv6 addressing and architecture is discussed in detail, and the issues related to the deployment, transition and coexistence with IPv4 are examined.

Course outline

This course also includes configuration and demonstration of IPv6 on host computers as well as IPv6 network building and configuration. IPv6 policy and address allocation criteria are discussed, as are the issues related to the current status of IPv4 free pool allocation and the deployment status of IPv6.

In the second phase IPv6 course, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the issues and consider the problems and solutions involved in actually deploying IPv6 in an operational ISP environment.

The processes of planning, building and configuring an IPv6 network will be covered, including the deployment of IPv6 capable infrastructure services and establishing IPv6 connectivity to the global IPv6 network.
While ISPs may not necessarily be content providers, making content and services available via IPv6 to users will be crucial for any IPv6 deployment to be meaningful on an operational and production level, and so this aspect is examined as well.

The course also looks at IPv6 security.

Who should attend?

Anyone interested in learning about IPv6, as well of those involved in:

  • IPv6 planning
  • deployment
  • transition and configuration
will benefit from this training.

The practical workshops would be particularly important for operational engineers, while the more general discussion and review of issues involved would be highly relevant to managers and other decision makers
