APNIC training courses fall into two principal areas
| ||
Face-to-face training
Courses are conducted onsite in our member economies. These courses are usually:
Tutorials | Presentations & demonstrations Duration: 1-2 days |
Workshops | Tutorial + hands on practical Duration: 2-5 days (depends on needs and availability) |

eLearning
eLearning is a training delivery method that uses computer based delivery to provide training and learning experiences to trainees regardless of geographical distance and differing time zones.
It is not intended to replace face-to-face training, but to provide an additional option for training delivery. It forms part of our 'blended learning environment" which combines face-to-face training and workshops, elearning-interactive, and self-paced online modules to provide continuity of learning accessibility and availability.
elearning training is delivered in two formats:
eLearning-Interactive | elearning-Interactive enables APNIC to deliver courses in an interactive, online mode as webclasses. The webclass is a virtual environment, which our participants join for that course. The webclass ‘meets’ online for 3-5 sessions (depending on the course) and effectively becomes a learning community. To allow for regional time differences, we divide the Asia Pacific into seven groupings based on timezones. Webclasses are scheduled at times best suited for a particular grouping. However, we are happy for anyone in any zone to register if they can fit in with the time. The elearning platform, called DimDim, allows us to interact with students using text-chat, audio and video. However, to accommodate low bandwidth environments, we generally use video and audio for the trainer and text-chat for the participants. DimDim enables the presenter to share presentations, whiteboard, and desktop applications with trainees. Webclasses are delivered from an elearning ’studio’ which allows the trainer can ’see’ the class (the DimDim environment) on a large screen and talk/interact in a manner as close as possible to teaching in a face-to-face environment. A second trainer participates in the session as a ’producer’, monitoring text-chat, answering questions and generally supporting the instructor. |
Self paced modules | Self-paced modules enable trainees to access online based self-learning modules that will guide them through topic areas at their own pace. These modules use a mixture of multimedia and presentation technologies and are geared to support and augment the face-to-face and webclass training. |
