Managing historical resources
What are historical resources?
IPv4 addresses and AS Numbers delegated by registries that pre-dated Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) are commonly known as historical resources. There are three types:
| Registrations transferred to APNIC as part of the AUNIC to APNIC migration |
Resources delegated by AUNIC. |
|---|---|
| Registrations transferred as part of the Early Registration Transfer (ERX) project |
Global registries that pre-dated ARIN, such as DDN-NIC, SRI-NIC, and InterNIC, initially made most of the historical registrations. ARIN inherited these registrations automatically when it was established. Historical registrations made to organizations in the APNIC region were transferred to APNIC during 2003 and 2004 as part of the RIRs Early Registration Transfer (ERX) project.

| Historical APNIC resources |
Historical APNIC resources were delegated to organizations by APNIC prior to the introduction of a membership structure. These resources have always been registered in the APNIC Whois Database, however, the resource holder did not become an APNIC Member (or Non-Member) at any time after the introduction of the membership structure. |
Registration updates for historical resources
Before requesting for APNIC to update historical resources records, you must demonstrate to APNIC that your organization has a right to continue using those resources, according to APNIC policies.
Send an email to helpdesk@apnic.net, and include the IP address or AS Number ranges and a brief description of any changes that are needed.
APNIC may ask you to provide documentation supporting your claims on historical resources. When the request is approved, you will be required to open an APNIC account to receive the registration services.
