What are multihoming assignments for?
Multihoming assignments are for small networks that are multihoming, or plan to multihome.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:
- be currently multihomed, with provider-based addresses, or demonstrate a plan to multihome within one month; and
- agree to renumber out of previously assigned address space.
Can a member of an NIR obtain a multihoming assignment?
NIR members can choose to obtain a multihoming assignment either by becoming an APNIC member or non-member.
I'm not multihomed yet, but I soon will be - can I still apply?
Yes, if your organization plans to multihome within a month. You must provide full details of your plans to multihome, including the contact details of intended network peers. APNIC will contact these peers to verify your plans.
What size are the assignments?
You can apply for an assignment of any size provided you can demonstrate a need for that space. To do this you should demonstrate that you will use 25 percent of the assignment immediately and 50 percent within one year.
The minimum size for an IPv6 assignment is /48.
- For more information please see the IPv6 resource guide.
This is an assignment not an allocation - what is the difference?
Allocated address space is address space that is distributed to members for the purpose of subsequent distribution by them.
Assigned address space is address space that is distributed to a single end-user for the purpose of actual deployment in that end-user's own network. Address space is also designated as assigned if the organization holding it uses it for the purposes of addressing their own network or applies it to a pool from which assignments are made dynamically as connections are established. Assignments are made for specific, documented purposes and should not be sub-allocated or sub-assigned.
Are there any fees for this?
APNIC's normal fee schedule applies.
