About this community

APNIC is establishing a WhatsApp Community to help Members and the wider Internet community connect, share information, and stay informed about topics relevant to Internet number resources and APNIC activities. The community will comprise an announcement channel and discussion groups.

Community Rules

Your use of WhatsApp is governed by WhatsApp’s own terms, policies, and privacy settings. These APNIC Community Rules apply in addition to WhatsApp’s terms.

APNIC Community Code of Conduct

To ensure the group remains useful, inclusive, and respectful, all participants are expected to follow the guidelines below. Please note that the APNIC Community Code of Conduct applies to all interactions within this community.

Respectful and professional behaviour

All community members are expected to engage with one another in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Treat all participants with respect.
  • Personal attacks, harassment, or discriminatory language are not permitted.
  • Assume good intent and keep discussions constructive, even when views differ.

Keep discussions on topic

The discussion groups are intended for conversations relevant to:
  • APNIC and its activities
  • Internet number resources
  • Related technical, policy, and community topics
The following are not permitted:
  • Sales, marketing, or other commercial content
  • Any content that may breach the Code of Conduct
Such content may be removed, and violations may result in removal from the group. Content posted by community members reflects the views of the individual author and does not necessarily reflect the views of APNIC. APNIC monitors but is not responsible for user-generated content. Link or content sharing by APNIC is not endorsement. Be cautious with links, files, and unsolicited direct messages. APNIC will not ask for passwords or sensitive account details in WhatsApp. Report suspected scams or impersonation to the moderators and/or APNIC Helpdesk.

Privacy

Joining the WhatsApp Community is entirely optional. By joining the groups, you are accepting APNIC’s WhatsApp Community Rules and consent to APNIC’s handling of any of your personal information received in accordance with APNIC’s Privacy Statement. All interactions must follow the APNIC Code of Conduct.

If you choose to join, please note that your phone number, display name, and any other personal information you choose to share during your participation will be visible to us and all other members of this specific discussion group, who may be located in other economies in the Asia Pacific.

This visibility is limited to the subgroup you join and does not extend to the broader announcement channel.

APNIC encourages the members of this WhatsApp Community to refrain from sharing screenshots, messages, or personal details from this group without permission. However, we cannot guarantee that the personal information that you choose to share in the subgroup will not be copied or shared by another member.

Moderation and enforcement

Groups will be moderated to help ensure a safe and productive environment. Moderators may:
  • Redirect off-topic or sensitive discussions
  • Remind community members of these community rules
  • Remove any content they consider inappropriate or in breach of the community rules
  • Remove community members from the group
APNIC may update these Community Rules from time to time, and may close or archive groups (for example, event-specific groups), at its discretion. Continued participation is deemed acceptance of the updated rules.

The APNIC WhatsApp Community is an official, opt in space for staying connected with APNIC. It brings together:

  • An Announcement Group for official APNIC updates
  • A moderated Discussion Group where community members can take part in shared conversations

Announcement Group: A one way channel used by APNIC to share official updates, notices, and reminders. Members cannot post in this group.

Discussion Group: A moderated, open group where members can ask questions, share knowledge, and engage in community discussion.

No. While APNIC staff may participate in the Discussion Group, the WhatsApp Community is not an official support channel. For account specific or service related issues, you should continue to use the APNIC Helpdesk.

No. When you join the APNIC WhatsApp Community, you will automatically receive messages from the Announcement Group. Joining the Discussion Group is optional and entirely up to you.

The Discussion Group is intended for conversations related to:

  • APNIC and its activities
  • Internet number resources
  • Related technical, policy, and community topics

Commercial content, sales, or marketing messages are not permitted.

Yes. The Discussion Group is moderated to help ensure discussions remain respectful, relevant, and constructive. Moderators may redirect off topic discussions, remove inappropriate content, or take other actions in line with the Community Rules such as removing members from the WhatsApp Community.

Yes. All participation in the APNIC WhatsApp Community, including the Discussion Group, must follow the APNIC Community Code of Conduct and the WhatsApp Community Rules.

In the Announcement Group, your phone number is not visible to other members.

In the Discussion Group, your phone number will be visible to other participants, as per WhatsApp’s standard behaviour.

Activity levels may vary over time and around events. APNIC aims to keep the Announcement Group low noise, while the Discussion Group is open to community participation within the posted guidelines.

Yes. You can mute notifications for the Community or individual groups at any time, or leave the Community altogether, directly within WhatsApp.

No. The WhatsApp Community is an additional channel. Official announcements and information are also shared via the APNIC website, email, and other established APNIC communication channels.
