APNIC IPv4 post-exhaustion

There is still IPv4 address space

Currently, APNIC is delegating IPv4 from the final /8 (103/8 pool) it holds and from the returned non-103 address pool allocated to APNIC, as the result of the activation of the Global policy for post exhaustion IPv4 allocation mechanisms by the IANA. This means that Members can still get IPv4 address space; however,  each Member is entitled to a total maximum of a /23 (or 512 addresses) from the 103/8 address pool. Once you receive your maximum delegation, you will not be eligible to receive any additional IPv4 addresses from APNIC.

The Asia Pacific Internet community agreed to this approach to conserve the remaining IPv4 addresses, so they can be delegated to new networks that connect to the Internet. To read the policy, please refer to the APNIC IPv4 address policy.

How to receive IPv4 addresses from APNIC

  • Existing Members that have not received a total of /23 delegation from the 103/8 address pool may complete a request form in MyAPNIC (located in the ‘Resources’ tab).
  • New or prospective APNIC Members can learn more about applying for resources from APNIC.

If you need more than a /23

  • Consider finding a source for an IPv4 transfer. Please refer to Section 8 of the IPv4 address policy.
  • APNIC Members who can justify a need for additional IPv4 space can receive unused address space from within the region or from other RIRs, which has a similar needs-based transfer policy.
  • Anyone may subscribe to the APNIC transfers mailing list, which was created to provide a forum for IPv4 transfer discussions.

How to transfer IPv4

  • Using MyAPNIC, Members can transfer IPv4 address space to each other. Please refer to the IPv4 Transfer Guide for more information.
  • To transfer to or from Member organizations within other RIRs, APNIC Members can complete the inter-RIR transfer form.

IPv6 is the long-term solution

IPv6 provides a very large number of IP addresses, which will be sufficient for networks to grow. There is not enough unused IPv4 address space left for networks to grow. Plan for your IPv6 deployment now. It is easy to obtain IPv6 addresses from APNIC!
