Karla Skarda

Karla’s background is in business consulting with extensive experience working in IT and licensing. With more than 20 years of developing, managing and motivating highly productive, cross functional teams she seeks to drive operational excellence and efficiency at APNIC.
Current Position and Activities | Karla was appointed as Services Director for APNIC in 2021, the Regional Internet Registry that serves the Asia Pacific region, and is a member of the APNIC Executive Team. She is responsible for the strategic management of the services delivered to APNIC stakeholders, and the oversight of all services and service related communications and activities across the organisation. Remit includes overall development and operations of APNIC core services such as resource allocation/assignments, membership and helpdesk, and other service delivery. |

Previous Positions | Karla previously served in various IT consulting and later Operations Management roles in South Africa, the US and Singapore before relocating to Australia in 2011. Between 2011 and 2020 she worked at PPCA, a non-profit organisation that provides licences to Australian businesses to play recorded music in public. Karla joined PPCA as a Business and Systems Analyst and then progressed to Head of Licensing on completion of her MBA. Karla moved from Sydney to Brisbane to take up a role as Chief Operating Officer for Nightlife Music just prior to the start of the COVID pandemic, and helped to restructure the company to adapt to the change in the market. Having decided to call Brisbane home, Karla joined APNIC in 2021. |
