Guide to the APNIC AS Number Request Form (text version)

Before you start

This guide will lead you through the steps required to request an AS number from APNIC.

AS numbers are available to current APNIC members and non-members. To become an APNIC member, please contact member-apply@apnic.net before completing the form. To apply for an AS number as a non-member, you must first obtain an APNIC non-member account name.

If your organisation is requesting an AS number on behalf of a customer, please be aware that your organisation must return the AS number to APNIC if the customer ceases connectivity with you. Please see section 6.2 of Policies for Autonomous System number management in the Asia Pacific region for more information.

Use this guide if you are completing the text version of the APNIC AS Number Request Form.

The AS Number Request Form is also available as an online form.

News

On 1 January 2007, APNIC began processing applications for both two-byte and four-byte AS numbers. The request form has been updated with an extra question in the 'additional information' section to reflect this new service. APNIC will still assign two-byte AS numbers by default, so if you require a four-byte AS number, please specify this in your request form.

How to complete the APNIC AS number Request Form (text version)

The text form is intended to be completed in text and submitted by email to APNIC. Please note that it may be parsed by machine before it is forwarded to the APNIC hostmasters. Therefore, you must ensure that:

  • your account name is included in the subject line.
  • Example:

    GLOBALTRANSIT-JP
  • your email is sent in plain ASCII text only
  • you do not modify any of the template lines starting with #[
  • you do not modify any of the field names in the templates.

Eligibility for an AS number

Organisations requesting an AS number should see RFC 1930 to determine whether an AS number is justified. Note that organisations who connect directly to a public Internet exchange point are regarded as being multihomed.
