ASN distribution

ASN cumulative distribution (number of ASNs delegated)

There has been a steady increase in the number of Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) delegations over the 2003-2008 period reflecting increased network maturity, although still behind compared to more mature markets such as North America and Europe. During this period there were only 2,700 allocations with over 700 allocated in 2008 alone.

About ASNs

An Autonomous System (AS) is a collection of connected IP routing prefixes under the control of one or more network operators that presents common, clearly defined routing policy to the Internet. A unique AS number is allocated to each AS for routing purposes. They are important because the AS number uniquely identifies each network to the Internet.
