Dear Sirs,
I do not think you have fully accommodated the trend that both CATV
operators and ADSL operators are adopting PPP in a large scale. PPP is
independent of layer 2 topology so that it does not match physical topology
of the DSLAMs nor cables.
We are seeing around 50,000/month user growth among major ISPs in Japan,
who split their IP addresses among multiple Broadband Access Servers.
However, it is becoming more and more difficult to give rationals to
network topology changes since the NIC people never understand how tough it
is to move thousands of IP addresses from one BRAS to another very
frequently just to manage the growth.
I do not fully understand how these facts are reported to the NICs since
many ISPs are still playing around with dial up pool addresses, which is
decreasing rapidly, and moving them secretly to the broadband network. I
think it is time to tell the truth and find some solutions before the
technicians dealing the protocol between NICs and service operators get
exhausted of exchanging excuses.
Sincerely,
Yoshihiro Obata
