[Wg-apnic-fees] RE: Proposal for APNIC annual service fee

As a 'new' non-member I am very interested in this proposal.

I also know a lot of people with Aunic IP ranges pre-apnic.

I have no problem with the $50 fee to maintain the apnic account,
however my problem lies as follows :

* Item 4 - "Revocation of resources for non-payment of service fees

    - APNIC will revoke and reclaim resources from non-member account
holders who do not pay their annual service fees by the due
 date. " etc etc

THIS IS CRAP. You CANNOT blackmail people to paying you to be a
member or non-member for IP resources we've had well before apnic was even
an idea, on the threat of revoking legitimate resources.

If payment is not received as per the current arrangement, then the
maintainer of the IP ranges should return to APNIC.. But for most
of us the only reason we've had to become a member is to make a single
change to a reverse lookup address. And we'll probably never use it ever
again. Why should we be paying for something that we'll never need ?

Maybe apnic should simply set a standard pre-paid fee for service
in place. Eg -
 - change a resource rev dns record : $50
 - change a comment field : $50 etc etc

Plus if a fee for service method was introduced it would mean more revenue

when changes need to be made anyway, and reduce load on membership
maintenance / support questions etc etc.

I was told unequivically that even if I didn?t renew my non-member
agreement at the end of 12 months, all that would happen would be the
maintainer objects would return to be apnic again, and I'd have to go
through the entire war-and-peace paperwork effort again to make another
change, NOT that my resources would be pulled for non-payment..
