Dear colleagues This is a brief summary of the NIR SIG which was held yesterday during APNIC 20 in Hanoi. The session was very well attended with roughly 30 attendees. Although there were NIR updates scheduled for presentation, the time was taken up mostly by discussion of per address fees. Paul Wilson from APNIC and Billy Cheon from KRNIC of NIDA both made detailed presentations about the per address fees and the NIR fee structure. The NIR SIG reached consensus on Billy Cheon's proposal [prop-028-v001] abolish per address fees. This proposal will now be referred to the APNIC Member Meeting as the next stage in the policy development process. The NIR SIG will also continue discussions on the long term revision of the fee structure for NIRs. Phan Thi Nhung provided a very interesting VNNIC update, but unfortunately there was not time to hear the remaining NIR reports, although they are all available on the APNIC web site. We will request that more time be allocated to this SIG in future APNIC meetings. All the presentations from the SIG are available from: http://www.apnic.net/meetings/20/programme/sigs/nir.html Minutes will be available within 1-2 weeks. Comments or questions are welcome also from those who were not able to attend the session. Kind regards, Izumi NIR SIG Chair
