Sri Lanka: Role of IT in the peace process (Daily Mirror, 17 June
2003)

Description: According to Subimal Bhattacharjee, "The donor meet in
Japan is just over. This is another significant step in the fragile
peace process in the country. The world community has pledged immense
support for the peace process for sometime now, in this donor meet
they have substantiated this by providing a whopping US $ 4.5 billion
in aid in support of the peace process for the rebuilding of Sri
Lanka... The international organisations have also shown a lot of
interest to fund IT initiatives in Sri Lanka and the role of the
World Bank and The Commonwealth Secretariat deserves mention.
Similarly bilateral cooperation will be a hallmark of the peace
process and many nations are ready to provide the nation with their
successful IT projects. The question is how the nation is geared to
absorb all these and give a thrust to the efforts. The eSriLanka plan
is the best answer here and the formation of the ICT Agency
envisioned under the plan is seeing the light of the day."
