ISLAMABAD (June 16 2003): To facilitate taxpayers, Pakistan Revenue 
Automation Limited (PRAL) has developed Central Excise Automation 
System, Salary Cases Processing System, Automated Toll Collection 
System and other automated wizards.  

Sources said here on Sunday, PRAL is providing technical assistance 
and consultancy services in tariff rationalisation, pre-shipment 
export financing guarantees and modernisation of customs department.  


The contribution made by PRAL's consultants also included development 
of strategies for introducing current IT techniques and technologies 
in the related organisation and demonstrating practicability of the 
new concepts through application of software development.  

Central Excise Automation System covers all the major tax related 
functions being performed at both the circle and Collectorate levels. 
 

Excise is collected through a network of 9 Collectorates spread 
throughout the country as PRAL has developed a user-friendly 
electronic record keeping system (CEAS).  

Meanwhile, Salary Cases Processing System has been designed to 
process salary returns/salary certificate filed directly by salaried 
individuals or through their respective employers.  

Major activities include salary cases handling, tax computation and 
preparation of various reports and registers.  

This application handles treatment of more than 150 allowances.  

The system is parameterised and meets the Management Information 
System requirements at all level of tax management.  

Documents processed by the customs authorities relating to 
import/export are managed by a fully computerised online system.  

Operational on multi-sites in six cities including Karachi, Lahore, 
Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, and Sambrial.  

It facilitates Customs officers in appraisement, duty calculation, 
clearance of goods including manifestations, and complete follow-up.  


The traders are provided all the services under one roof in a 
congenial environment.  

Furthermore, Income Tax Circle Management System (ITCMS) focuses on 
automation of activities performed in the circle office of Income Tax 
Department.  

The application software is very extensive in its scope and its 
modules include handling of income tax returns and requisite 
documents, notices, letters, appeals, order sheets, assessment 
orders, demands, arrears, forward diary, and various reports for 
lower, middle, and top level management in respect of all categories 
of taxpayers.
