Government to unveil Information Technology policy on August 16

ISLAMABAD (July 22) : Chief Coordinator Programme 2010 Ahsan Iqbal here on 
Wednesday revealed that the government has finalised first ever National 
Information Technology Policy and the same would be unveiled on August 16.  

Pakistan could only become the super power and meet the challenges of 21st 
century by means of information technology, maintained Ahsan addressing at 
a seminar on "Computer based information technology" organised by Institute 
of Engineering and Technology (IET) in collaboration with University of 
Sunderland UK. Ahsan said that keeping in view the importance of 
information technology, government has sketched a broad based policy 
through the Prime Minister's Programme 2010. He added "besides finalising 
the first ever national information technology policy to be disclosed on 
August 16th, a wide ranged computer networking and science-oriented 
scholarship programme has also been chalked out, where every middle school 
will be equipped with the computer knowledge by the year 2000 and every 
high school by the year 2005, and one hundred scholarships will be awarded 
to eligible and outstanding students after matriculation and three hundred 
PhDs within and one hundred PhDs scholarships outside the country. . 
Earlier, Shaukat Hussain, Principal Institute of Engineering and Technology 
said that the undercurrents of the ocean of information derived the whole 
humanity whether conscious or not. He added that culture and heritage, 
business and economy, trade and industry, research and development, 
resource manipulation and mobilisation, production and utilisation, in 
fact, all facets of are under the influence of information boom, thus it is 
pertinent to take over this boom as soon as possible in order to enter into 
21st century with honour and privilege.  

In his exhaustive counselling, Dr Simon Stobart of Sunderland University UK 
said that there is a plenty of curiosity prevailing among the people of 
Pakistan to know more about the information technology, thus this 
counselling will provide them an opportunity to explore more about an 
efficacy of information technology by finding an answer of how it has 
become inevitable for the 21st century?
