Technology Board meeting
KARACHI (July 15) : The delay in convening first meeting of the
recently formed Sindh Information Technology (IT) Board has caused
unrest among members of Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA)
and individual software producers of the city.
Any more delay in decision-making regarding IT policies of the
province would further cause linger on the progress of the proposed
Indus Technology Park at Sohrab Goth, they apprehend.
The Sindh government had constituted the IT Board, under chairmanship
of former Sindh governor, Lieutenant General Moinuddin Haider, but
the board has not met yet due to political changes in the province
last month.
"Now we are waiting for the new set up of the board, under which the
board would either be chaired by new Sindh Governor or Advisor to
Prime Minister on Sindh Affairs," said Khurrum P. Rafiq, a PASHA
nominated member on the board.
Rafiq said, "the IT world is changing fast and we should not be
lagged behind any more in decision making in this regard."
The Sindh IT Board was constituted about two months back for
promotion of IT in the province. it's board members were taken from
various sections including government, industries, software houses
and educational institutions.
PASHA has been playing a dominant role in creation of the board for
boosting up country's software exports.
Such type of board has already started functioning in Punjab.
The Sindh's IT Board plans to encourage IT activities in the province
with ultimate to produce software professional in large quantity.
The Sindh government is also planning to set up an IT Park on a 50
acres of land at Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (Site) Super Highway.
The Site limited in collaboration with Site Association of Industry,
PASHA and private sector partners has planned to provide every
facility including telecommunication, un-interrupted power supply and
residences to software developers at the site of park.--APP
