Telecom centre planned for NED
By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 10: The Ministry of Communication and the NED
University of Engineering and Technology have agreed to launch a
joint project for the establishment of a telecommunication centre.
The centre will be built on the campus of the university.

The centre will have state-of-the-art antennas, radio receivers,
signal analysis and recording equipment and will be fully managed and
controlled by computers. The land for the project has been provided
by the university and the buildings and equipment etc will be given
by the ministry's Frequency Allocation Board (FAB).

In addition to a fixed station, there will be two mobile stations
capable of managing Very High Frequency (VHF) and Ultra High
Frequency (UHF) radio frequency spectrums. The centre will, thus,
contribute towards the optimal management of the radio frequency
spectrum, said a press release of the university issued on Saturday.

The aim of the project, added the handout, was to create an
environment where rapid and orderly growth of telecommunications
infrastructure could take place. The centre would also enable
engineers and scientists to undertake good quality research work.
