IBS unveils new software for airline business

Thiruvananathapuram, May 28 (IANS) IBS Software Services, which has its
software centre at an IT park in this Kerala capital, showcased a new
passenger services system software for the airline industry at a business
event in Portugal.
IBS demonstrated iRes, its new generation passenger services system, at
Information Management 2003 held in Lisbon May 19-21. The company touts iRes
as the passenger services system of the future to handle reservations,
departure control, fares and ticketing.
IBS provides software for the transportation and logistics industry
worldwide, with special focus on air transport industry. IBS operates in the
U.S., Europe, Middle East and Asia-Pacific through subsidiaries and branches
in Atlanta, Zurich, London, Dubai and Singapore. Its software development
centre is in Technopark here.
IBS CEO V.K. Mathews addressed a seminar on "Changing Airline Business
Models Through New Generation Systems" at the Lisbon event organised by the
International Air Transport Association. A company statement said Mathews in
his speech voiced concern over the gloom pervading the airline industry.
"It is not a process change any more, it is a complete business model change
that airlines will have to undergo to survive," Mathews was quoted as
saying.
"The industry dependence on IT solutions to reduce cost, improve efficiency
and to improve service quality has never been felt more."
About 250 delegates from the global airline industry attended the Lisbon
event that focused on optimising information management in the industry for
better customer satisfaction and business returns. Around 25 leading
suppliers of IT services to the air transportation industry also
participated.
IBS has of late has inked contracts with companies like SITA, Emirates,
Sharjah Port Trust and a consortium of oil companies for developing their
logistics software.
