Libraries and the Information Society: IFLA Compiles Success Stories 14/05/2003 (IFLA) As part of the preparation for the World Summit on the Information Society, IFLA and other UNESCO partner organisations are lobbying to stress the importance of archives, libraries and other information services as key actors to provide access to essential resources. IFLA that will shortly be announcing a pre-conference in Geneva (3-4 November 2003) where librarians will promote the importance of content in the Information Society and the role of libraries in delivering it, now launches an appeal to librarians worldwide to show concrete examples of how libraries all over the world successfully apply ICTs. "We need to strengthen the perception of libraries in the WSIS - help us to do this by telling us about your achievements. What are you doing? How has it been received in the press? Send us your short descriptions and photos (or URLs) showing how your library is at the heart of the information society" states the appeal. Contributions should be send by 15 July 2003 to the following address: Genevieve Clavel-Merrin Swiss National Library Hallwylstrasse 15 CH-3003 Bern Tel: +41 31 3228936 Fax: +41 31 3228463 E-mail: Genevieve.Clavel@slb.admin.ch http://www.snl.ch source: http://portal.unesco.org/ci/ev.php?URL_ID=10581&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SE CTION=201&reload=1053492018
