Domain name owners need to be wary of unscrupulous sales practices that involve companies calling and trying to pressure them into registering or renewing domains at inflated prices. We have been made
aware of a new scam where registrants are called up by someone claiming to be affiliated with the UK registry Nominet, and notified that a third party has registered their domain in an alternative suffix. The registrant is then pressured into entering into a bidding war to retain their intellectual property. The third party, of course, does not actually exist ? and prices are exorbitant.
