Governments to decide future of net - Major shift in
power in ICANN
ICANN Marrakech In an historic shift of power,
international governments will this week argue that
they should take the lead role in "public policy"
issues on the Net - effectively deciding the future
course of much of the internet.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/06/28/gac_icann_communique/

Highs, lows and sickos - The unspoken side of the
Morroccan meeting
ICANN Marrakech ICANN Marrakech is over, save the
board meeting. And this fact was - as it always is -
sufficient reason for everyone to head to the bar and
mull things over while consuming (un)healthy
quantities of booze.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/06/30/icann_blog_marrakech_friday/

Arguments and gunfire - It's dangerous in here
(ICANN@Marrakesh)
ICANN Marrakech It's difficult to know if there is
anything more frustrating than being unable to get on
the internet at an ICANN meeting, but then I'm certain
that the greengrocers of Georgia or undertakers of
Uxbridge have an anecdote or two to put that in
shadow.

Bad music and full mouths - Muddling through in
Morocco
ICANN Marrakech: "Cause baby, I feel wonderful
tonight..." The man singing this is lying. He doesn't
feel wonderful at all. He feels like a musician who
has been reduced to playing old-favourites to a small
bunch of indifferent tourists, sat tapping away behind
two sythesisers, only one of which he ever plays, but
both of which are bathed in bright pink light. Welcome
to Marrakech.

New WHOIS Definition Survives Marrakech ICANN Meeting
by Milton Mueller
For now, it appears that the new, more technically
focused and privacy-friendly definition of the purpose
of Whois survived the Marrakech meeting. The U.S.
Government and the copyright and law enforcement
interests mounted a major onslaught against the
Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) action,
using the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) as
their pressure point.

.xxx probes US government interference
The company behind the unsuccessful .xxx bid has filed
a third freedom of information act (FOIA) request
against the US Department of Commerce in its ongoing
bid to discover what pressure was exerted by the US
government on internet organisation ICANN to turn the
top-level domain down.

Tragic death sparks new internet foundation
A new foundation has been created to honour the memory
of internet pioneer Liz Dengate-Thrush who died last
week in a tragic traffic accident. The Liz Dengate
Thrush Internet Entrepreneurship Foundation was

The Continued Transition of the Technical Coordination
and Management of the Internet Domain Name and
Addressing System - Notice of Inquiry, Notice of
Public Meeting
The United States Department of Commerce?s National
Telecommunications and Information Administration
(NTIA) seeks comment on the continuation of the
transition of the technical coordination and
management of the Internet domain name and addressing
system (Internet DNS) to the private sector. In June
1998, the Department issued a statement of policy on
the privatization of the Internet DNS, which among
other things articulated four primary functions for
global Internet DNS coordination and management, the
need to have these functions performed by the private
sector and four principles to guide the transition to
private sector management of the Internet DNS. On
June 30, 2005, NTIA released the U.S. Principles on
the Internet?s Domain Name and Addressing System
further elaborating on these issues. The Department
of Commerce seeks comment regarding the progress of
this transition and announces a public meeting to be
held on July 26, 2006, to discuss issues associated
with this transition.

au: Budget boost to city spirit
COMMUNITY building will be a vital part of this year?s
Ipswich City Council budget, Mayor Paul Pisasale said
yesterday. The centrepieces of council?s strategy will
be the registration of the internet domain name
?australiafamilies.com.au? and the introduction of
subsidised neighbourhood barbecues. ?Families are the
building blocks of a successful city,? Cr Pisasale
said. ?The city doesn?t work unless its families work
together.? Councillors and the mayor will have
discretionary funds to subsidise get-togethers of
neighbours, interest groups or even whole suburbs to
promote interaction and community building.

The Spread of the Internet Does Not Pose Any Threat to
Civil Society [analysis]
As the Internet grows, its usage also grows
proportionately around the world. Its growth is due to
its capability to provide users with connections to
institutions and facilities that are based in overseas
destinations. As a result ICANN has plans to introduce
policies and structures to police the use of the
internet.

The growing increase in the number of mobile devices
is encouraging more and more content providers to look

appropriate means by which Internet content can be
distributed efficiently and at low costs to both
providers and consumers.

Internet-Verwaltung kann Geld aus .com-Deal noch nicht
verplanen
genehmigen.

ICANN kündigt Konsultation zur Zukunft der privaten

Nach der Ankündigung einer Konsultation zur Zukunft

Paul Twomey kündigte heute beim Treffen in Marrakesch

ihrer Länderdomains (country code Top Level Domain,
ccTLDs).
gibt.

equivalente à Câmara dos Deputados (House of
movimentado diversos ativistas e empresas.
local.
