Subject: WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center Update
Madam,
Sir,
With this e-mail I have pleasure in providing you a brief update on the
activities of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO).
*********************************
I. June 2004: WIPO Workshops for Mediators in Intellectual Property
Disputes
The caseload of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center includes a growing
number of intellectual property mediations.
In addition to administering mediation procedures under the WIPO Mediation
Rules, the Center each year organizes Workshops for Mediators in
Intellectual Property Disputes. The next Workshops will be held on
Thursday, June 24 and Friday, June 25, and again on Monday, June 28 and
Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the headquarters of WIPO in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Workshops, which are held in English, are designed for lawyers, business
executives, patent and trademark specialists and others who wish to become
familiar with the mediation process and receive training as mediators.
Conducted by Professor Robert H. Mnookin of Harvard Law School and Professor
Gary J. Friedman of the Center for Mediation in Law of Mill Valley,
California, the Workshops are based on intellectual property mediation
exercises.
Information on the Workshops and a registration form are available on the
Center's website at
http://arbiter.wipo.int/events/workshops/2004/mediation/index.html

II. April 2005: WIPO Conference on Dispute Resolution in International
Science and Technology Collaboration
Research increasingly involves complex international partnerships between
diverse actors such as universities, industry, start-up companies, and
venture capital providers. Such relationships can give rise to equally
complex intellectual property and technology disputes. To help parties
obtain a better understanding of the issues that might give rise to disputes
and to address the various options for resolving them, the Center plans to
organize a Conference on Dispute Resolution in International Science and
Technology Collaboration in Geneva on Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April
26, 2005. We invite you to reserve these dates and will be providing
further information in due course. Updated information is available at
http://arbiter.wipo.int/events/workshops/2004/arbitration/conference.html
