Yahoo: Tougher on piracy than child porn?
Internet piracy is apparently given a higher priority by Yahoo than
protecting children online, it emerges this week, as the Internet
portal has reportedly removed 13 chatrooms found to be trading
encryption techniques, while ignoring hundreds of pedophile groups
that it was alerted to six months ago.

CIPA CAN'T FILTER LAWSUIT
The ACLU and several library associations will reportedly
file twin lawsuits on March 20 in an effort to overturn the
Children's Internet Protection Act.  The new law, which
Congress passed late last year, mandates software filters in
schools and libraries.  The ACLU and numerous interested
parties, however, want the new law struck down on First
Amendment and due-process grounds.

CDA PROTECTS AOL IN CHILD PORN SUIT
The Florida State Supreme Court has ruled that the
Communications Decency Act shields AOL from liability for
illegal transactions on its site.  AOL was being sued by a
Florida woman whose 11 year old son appeared in a child
pornography tape sold by one AOL user to another.  Opinion

Gambling ban feasible: report
A BAN on internet gambling is technically possible, and the
enforcement costs could be borne by service providers, a draft report
suggests.

GOVERNMENTS need to adopt a more hands-off approach to the  internet
if the online economy is to flourish, a senior official from the US
Federal Trade Commission has told an Australian audience.

SEX.COM CASE CONFUSION CONTINUES
Yesterday was day one at the sex.com trial.  Aside from the
defendant not showing, the most interesting revelation was
that the plaintiff's former lawyer is now also suing for his
share of the sex.com proceeds.
