APNIC's use of greylisting
APNIC has implemented greylisting on APNIC mail servers in an effort to reduce the amount of spam APNIC receives.
About greylisting
Greylisting is a spam-reduction technique. It works by sending a temporary SMTP error the first time an email is received from an unknown sender. Legitimate mail servers that receive the error will wait, then resend the email successfully. Bulk mailers used by spammers, however, usually do not try to resend email. Therefore, greylisting will block the spam on the first and only attempt at delivery.
In conjunction with greylisting, APNIC also maintains a whitelist of known legitimate senders. Emails from whitelisted senders are immediately accepted at the APNIC server. Emails in the whitelist may automatically be removed after a month if no email is received within that period.
Having trouble sending email to APNIC?
Greylisting should not affect legitimate email to APNIC addresses. However, if you do notice that your email is not getting through, please contact APNIC immediately:
