George MichaelsonSenior Research and Development Scientist

George Michaelson is currently APNIC's senior R&D scientist. Recently, he has been working on long-baseline DNS statistics, services logging, audit and analysis, and design and implementation of the Internet Number Resource Certification framework.
George is a member of the BCS, and a founder member of the Australian chapter of the Internet Society. He participates regularly in IETF standardization meetings, and co-authors Request For Comment (RFC) documents, technical drafts, and conference and peer-review papers.
George graduated from York University in 1982 with a BSc in Computer Science. His career in the United Kingdom and Australia has pursued research and development in computer science, networking, and systems administration.

Current Position and Activities |
George Michaelson is APNIC's Senior Research and Development Officer. He explores research and development opportunities in Internet number resource management, Internet standards, and global Internet measurement and collaborative research. George has served in this role since May 2005, and he has more than 28 years' experience in computer science, networking, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) administration and research in Australia and the United Kingdom. George participates in standards development within the IETF and has been a working group chair as well as a Request for Comment (RFC) document author. |

Previous Positions |
Previously, George was the Technical Services Manager for APNIC from 2001 to mid-2005, responsible for ICT provisioning for APNIC services, as well as managing the Technical team, standards development, and technical governance and coordination. Prior to joining APNIC, George held a series of roles focusing mostly on fundamental computer science research and development. He has worked at Leeds University, York University, University College London, the Division of Information Technology at the CSIRO in Melbourne, the University of Queensland, programming roles at Australian ISPs Access-One and connect.com.au, and as Technical Services Manager at DSTC, a cooperative ICT research centre. In addition, George was the IETF Previous WG chair of the CRISP working group, Co-chair of the auDA Competition Panel 2001, and a founder member of the Australian chapter of ISOC. George co-authored RFC documents: RFC 1562 Naming Guidelines for the AARNet X.500 Directory Service RFC 5396 Textual Representation of Autonomous System (AS) Numbers |
