APNIC's role in IPv6 Deployment

The Asia Pacific community expects APNIC to take a leadership role in the challenge to address the issues involved in IPv4 exhaustion and IPv6 deployment.

While APNIC cannot actively participate in specific deployments on behalf of Member organizations, it does play a significant role in the introduction of IPv6 in the Asia Pacific and globally.

Education
The APNIC membership has asked the organization to play an active role in creating awareness of IPv6 and the issues surrounding IPv4 exhaustion.
Distribution
Assign and allocate IPv6 address space.
Act as an information source

APNIC will provide accurate and impartial research, information, and training on IPv6 deployment.

Facilitator

APNIC is in the unique position to act as a facilitator of multi-stakeholder discussion and information sharing with the entire community in the Asia Pacific region. Part of this discussion is the development of new policies specifically related to IPv6 addresses.

Why APNIC invests in IPv6?

The APNIC membership feels that IPv6 is one of the key issues in the community. The APNIC EC recently conducted the 2009 APNIC Member and Stakeholder Survey to ask the community what areas of investment that members would like to APNIC members fees to be invested in.
