APNIC EC Statement on ICANN Reform
[3 September 2002]
At its meeting in Kitakyushu, Japan, on Tuesday 3 September 2002, the APNIC Executive Council resolved to make the following public statement regarding the ICANN reform process.
"The APNIC EC is dismayed with the second interim report of the ICANN E&R Committee in terms of the lack of consideration and response to the submissions of the RIRs to ICANN.
"In the light of this, the APNIC EC are unwilling to accept the proposed changes to the composition of the ASO, the proposed changes to the support mechanisms of the ASO and proposed changes to the role of the ASO within ICANN."
The EC has invited APNIC members and others in the Asia Pacific region to provide their inputs to the EC, for consideration during the ICANN Reform process.

The APNIC Executive Council (EC) strongly encourages members and others in the Asia Pacific region to provide their inputs to the EC, for consideration during this process. As the RIR boards intend to finalise the next submission before the ICANN meeting in Shanghai (27 to 31 October), comments should be submitted as soon as possible, preferably before 1 September 2002.
Please send your contribution to the APNIC EC, by email to reform-comment@apnic.net.

Joint RIR Statement on ICANN Evolution and Reform
[8 May 2002]
The combined boards of the three Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) - APNIC, ARIN and RIPE NCC - have released a joint statement on the ICANN evolution and reform process. APNIC's Executive Council (EC) contributed to the joint statement, the first of a two-part response from the RIRs to ICANN's call for input.
The initial response describes a set of principles that the RIRs believe should frame the interaction between ICANN and the RIRs. The second part of the joint RIR response will focus on integrating these principles into a more general comment about roles and relationships between ICANN and the RIRs.
Announcement made relating to ICANN-RIR contract
[10 April 2002]
As APNIC members are aware, the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) have been working together for some time on the production of a relationship agreement, or contract, between the RIRs and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
There is now a draft contract that, if executed, would represent agreement between the RIRs and ICANN on matters of roles, responsibilities and procedures relating to Internet address management and global address management policies. This contract would further codify, or formalise, the existing working relationship between the RIRs and ICANN which is set forth in the ASO MoU.
Pending the final approval of RIR and ICANN boards, and the satisfactory development of the ICANN reform process, the RIRs believe that this document could be signed.
Comments are invited by email to apnic-talk@lists.apnic.net until Friday, 31 May 2002, 23:59 UTC.
